Inching my way home

by sajin on November 7, 2006

Something reminded me of these words from Veronica recently, but sadly it was in the literal sense than with the underlying magic in the way it is told.

I am in the traffic,
And I am barely moving.
Because that’s what traffic is.
It’s all of us out here together.
It’s the world,
Moving at once.

I am in the traffic. Inching my way home.

And as I was doing that, at the Marthahalli bridge, an ambulance from Vydehi hospital joined the long array of waiting vehicles with its sirens on. Everyone was trying to make way, switch lanes and let the vehicle go. In a packed scenario like that, there wasn’t much progress that all that goodwill could attain. Watching fellow commuters, I could sense we share the same anxiety.

Then the siren stopped, lights went off, and the vehicle took an U-turn.

I am in the traffic. Inching my way home.
